Outdoor Sanitation: Keeping Bamenda Clean, Safe, and Healthy

Outdoor sanitation remains a critical priority for Bamenda City Council in our mission to build a cleaner, healthier, and more livable city. As urban areas continue to grow and public spaces become increasingly active, the importance of maintaining high sanitation standards cannot be overstated.

In recent months, the Council has intensified its efforts in outdoor sanitation through community-based clean-up campaigns, routine waste collection, and the placement of additional waste bins across key areas of the city. These actions are not just about cleanliness—they are about protecting public health, preserving the environment, and restoring civic pride.

The Public Health and Environmental Department has been actively engaging with quarter heads, youth groups, and local volunteers to sensitize the population on proper waste disposal and the dangers of open dumping and littering. Regular sanitation inspections and enforcement have also been introduced to ensure that residents and businesses comply with the city’s hygiene standards.

The Mayor has reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to working hand in hand with the community:

“A clean city is not the work of government alone. It requires every resident to take responsibility for their surroundings. Together, we can keep Bamenda beautiful.”

As part of our Outdoor Sanitation Campaign, the Council is:

• Scaling up street sweeping and drainage maintenance.

• Installing and maintaining public toilets in busy zones.

• Partnering with environmental groups for awareness outreach.

• Supporting job creation through sanitation-related public works.
